|Q & A| We speak with Tish Jennings about her new book, The Trauma-Sensitive Classroom: Building Resilience with Compassionate Teaching.
Elyse is a CSC yoga and mindfullness instructor and has been a special education teacher and education specialist for the past 10 years. A seasoned Reiki Master, she is certified in health and life coaching, Hatha Yoga, and mindfulness having studied at Mindful Schools and the University of California San Francisco. With over 18-years of meditation and yoga experience, she has been able to customize procedures that best fit the needs of her students. An educator since 2007, Elyse is licensed to teach special and gifted education (K-12) in both California and Virginia. For years she incorporated yoga and mindfulness into these classes as well. Since returning to the East Coast in 2017, she has worked with private clients as a wellness and educational consultant.
She integrates health and life coaching, meditation, yoga, energy work and educational skills when curating and co-creating individualized systems to address clients’ unique needs. Elyse offers customized yoga practices that range from restorative to intensive Hatha practices while integrating pranayama and mindfulness techniques. Sessions afford others the skills to navigate and regulate daily stressors more easily. She also conducts Neuroscience of Stress Reduction and other stress management workshops for Fairfax County Public Schools behavior intervention services.
Living a third of her life abroad, Elyse has long embraced cultural diversity and values global perspectives and lifestyles. Her time in the Middle East trained her to be a good listener and facilitator, two skills that benefit her daily. She enjoys helping others solve problems, find their center, build self esteem, and feel a general sense of peace.
Elyse holds both a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Mary Baldwin University, with minor concentrations in psychology and Middle East Studies.
