Megan Downey is the K-12 Curriculum Project Manager for the Contemplative Sciences Center. In addition to her work with Contemplative Schools, Megan served as the project manager for the Compassionate Schools Project, the most comprehensive study to date of the impact of mindfulness and wellbeing instruction in a K-12 setting. The Compassionate Schools curriculum is currently being taught to 20,000 students in over 50 schools in Louisville, Kentucky. Megan is currently working on K-12 contemplative education resources for the Contemplative University digital portal.
Prior to joining the Contemplative Sciences Center in 2016, Megan was a high school teacher for five years. As part of her work in schools, Megan designed and implemented a social emotional learning program for high school juniors. She also taught week-long immersion courses in mindfulness and meditation to 9th-12th graders.
Megan has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches meditation classes to adolescents in the Bay Area.
