Eligibility: UVA graduate and post-doctoral students

This class is part of PhD Plus—UVA's University-wide initiative to prepare graduate students across all disciplines for long-term career success. 

In this session, reflect on your core values, skills and interests to evaluate which careers are likely to bear meaning and personal fulfillment in the long run. First, examine the beliefs, traditions, and experiences that have shaped your career decisions and directions. Through reflective writing, acknowledge the expectations and invisible pressures you may have experienced. Then, engage in values-exploration and contemplative techniques to build agency and resilience so you may move forward in careers with more intention and greater clarity.  Furthermore, learn how to make best use of online self-assessment tools like ChemIDP, Imagine PhD and myIDP  to gauge career fitness in diverse sectors.
