When

Tue. Aug 26, 2014 - Fri. Dec 5, 2014 (15 weeks)
Every Tuesday from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM

This seminar will review current research and theory on contemplative programs and interventions for children and youth in educational and clinical settings including forms of mindfulness meditation, yoga, and other contemplative practices. Students will be introduced to the theoretical basis for contemplative practices and curricula as well as the growing body of research to examine the effects of contemplative programs for adults in preparation for exploring how these practices may be applied in developmentally appropriate ways to support positive outcomes among children and youth. Students will explore several evidence-based programs for children and youth and read journal articles reporting on their efficacy. The seminar will be held weekly for 3 hours, with part of each class devoted to experiencing related contemplative practices.
