Bio

Devin Zuckerman joins the CSC as a Post-doctoral Research Associate and a Climate Fellow with the Environmental Institute. At the Contemplative Sciences Center, she is working with the CIRCL: Contemplative Innovation and Research Co-Lab to design a transdisciplinary study that investigates how contemplative practices of sensing and sense-making in nature produce experiences of connection with the more-than-human world.

Devin received her doctorate from the University of Virginia’s Religious Studies Department in 2024. Her dissertation, “Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Space: Elemental Theory in the Development of the Great Perfection Heart Essence (Rdzogs chen snying thig) Tradition of Tibet,” explored the development of Buddhist elemental philosophies and contemplative practices in texts from the Tibetan 12th century. While doing her doctorate, she also contributed to multidisciplinary environmental research collaboratives at UVa, with the Religion, Race, and Democracy Lab and the TranSci Lab for Real World Chemistry and Creative Communication.
