The Contemplative Commons is located near the heart of UVA Grounds at 403 Emmet St South, Charlottesville, VA. Visitors to the Contemplative Commons can find information below on the closest parking option and how to connect to UVA’s guest WiFi.
Wayfinding
Wayfinding signs are found on the first and third floors of the Contemplative Commons. On the first floor, the sign (linked below) is located on the wall to the right of the stairwell off the main Lobby. On the third floor, it is located on the wall to the right after entering the building from the east (Emmet St side) entrance off the bridge. View the sign on our Wayfinding Page.
Parking
The closest parking lot to the Contemplative Sciences Center and the Contemplative Commons is UVA’s Central Grounds Parking Garage. Guests can park there for a fee using the ParkMobile app. Visit the UVA Parking site for details and information on other nearby lots.
To use the ParkMobile app to pay for parking, you can:
- Download the ParkMobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
- Create an account by entering your email address or phone number, license plate number, and payment method
- Find the parking space and note the zone number on the signs or stickers
- Enter the zone number, 5515, for UVA Central Grounds Garage into the app
- Select how long you want to park
- Confirm your vehicle and payment method
- Press Start Parking
ADA Parking
Maps detailing the locations of reserved ADA spaces and accessible pathways can be found on the Facilities Management website. ADA parking spaces are first come, first served. If an ADA space is not available, vehicles with a DMV issued placard or license plate may park in a metered space, including the Central Grounds Parking Garage, for up to 4 hours.
Shuttles
Free bus service for visitors as well as UVA affiliates is available through University Transit Service.
Gold and Silver bus lines stop in front of the Contemplative Sciences Center as indicated below. On Friday, buses run every 20 minutes from 7:30 AM – 12:00 AM. On Saturday, buses run every 20-40 minutes beginning at 12:00 PM.

Guest Wifi
To Connect to UVA Guest Wifi, you can do the following:
- Go to your settings and under WIFI, connect to the UVA Guest WiFi network.
- A pop-up window should open automatically (if the page doesn't appear, open a browser & visit in.virginia.edu/guest)
- Click Connect Now to agree to the Terms & get WiFi.
