Bio

Austin Cooper is a neuroscientist investigating how the environment, body, brain, and mind interact, and how these interactions vary across the spectrum of human experience. For Austin, these inquiries are not merely scientific, but existential, aimed at uncovering authentic ways of being that often transcend conventional distinctions such as inside and outside, or self and other.

By studying how these interactions manifest as conscious experience, his work seeks to bridge neural dynamics with lived phenomenology. He is particularly interested in how shifts in attention, perception, and embodiment reorganize large-scale brain systems, and how such reorganization can be mediated via technologically enhanced and immersive environments.

Outside of the lab, Austin can be found flailing a racket on the squash courts, attempting to be sophisticated by reading in cafés, and honing his whistling skills while strolling the downtown strip.
