Bio

John Bultman, Yoga Program Manager, (M.S, ERYT-500), is one of approximately 27 Ashtanga Yoga teachers in the world Certified by Sharath Jois, lineage holder of Ashtanga Yoga. For 12 years he has served as the Yoga Program Manager for the Contemplative Sciences Center, University of Virginia. He has made 14 trips to Mysore, India to study yoga and philosophy and has been practicing yoga daily for 18 years (logging over 30,000 hours in a yoga room or on a mat).

Prior to his work with the CSC, John taught undergraduate Intro to GeologyHistorical Geology, and Environmental Geology for 7 years in Asheville, NC and ran a Mysore program in Asheville, NC. He graduated with a masters in Structural Geology and Tectonics from the University of Tennessee in 2005. Before grad school, John worked for an Environmental Geology firm for a year after receiving a Bachelors in Geology with a minor in Music from the University of Southern Mississippi where he was first introduced to Yoga in 1998. In college he was also a working artist, indie rocker, and skateboarder. He loves his son, spouse, dog, and well I reckon…the chickens too. Throughout his life he has sought the “how” of science, the “why” of philosophy and the love and laughter of the in-between. On good days he cultivates “awe” regularly. He humbly hopes to share the beauty and healing of Yoga as his teachers and friends continue to share with him.
