Engage in art as a sensory experience! More often than not, we're our own harshest critics. When perfect becomes the goal, mediocre feels unacceptable—and art, instead of being freeing, can become frustrating.

But what if, just for a little while, you could silence that inner critic and simply enjoy the act of creating?

In this workshop, we’ll draw in the dark—removing the pressure of perfection and reconnecting with the pure, sensory joy of making art.

Join us on Friday, November 14 for an Ashtanga Led Primary Series class to honor the late Sharath Jois, lineage holder of Ashtanga Yoga. The class is free and open to all.

In loving memory of Sharath’s dedication to environmental conservation, participants or those who may wish to contribute in his honor are encouraged to donate to the Southern Environmental Law Center.

Spontaneous forms of thought such as mind-wandering foster creativity and exploration. But digital technologies may be crowding out spontaneity: In the past, during idle times such as waiting for a bus, our minds were more accustomed to wandering. Now we are stuck on our phones. How can we make room for spontaneity in a digital world?

Let the blotches of paint guide your imagination. In this session, we’ll transform spontaneous splashes into repeating patterns, discovering how rhythm and flow emerge from playful randomness.

Swiss psychologist Carl Jung once said: “I knew that in finding the mandala as an expression of the self, I had attained what was for me the ultimate.”

Derived from the Sanskrit word for circle, mandalas are intricate geometric designs deeply rooted in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. As you journey through the mandala towards its center, you are guided on a spiritual path—transcending pain and suffering, and moving toward ultimate joy and wholeness.

The Active Series was developed by Sharath Jois and derived from a traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice. It retains all the benefits of the traditional method keeping the linking of movement with breath but includes new more accessible postures for a wider range of students in a modern age and setting. Students from all levels will be able to participate in a non-intimidating inclusive setting. Classes are open to all.
