Ease pre-election stress with an opportunity to connect with nature and move your body.  Join us for a guided walk around the Dell Pond, 4:00-5:00 pm.

We will meet in the Contemplative Commons 1st Floor Lobby.

This lecture will focus on “mindfulness” as it has been understood and cultivated in Indian and Tibetan Buddhism, according to the typology formulated by Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa (1730-1798). We will investigate Jigme Lingpa’s twofold typology concerning (1) a deliberate mindfulness according to Indian Mahāyāna sources, and (2) a non-dual mindfulness that is consistent with Dzogchen practice.
The next Morven Student Day is Oct 27 hosted by the Morven Sustainability Lab! Hiromi Johnson will be leading a Tea Ceremony; and CSC will have Kona Ice; will lead a traditional yoga or sound Bath (3pm); and drop-In contemplative crafts. We will also have therapy dogs on hand.
Join the Contemplative Sciences Center on October 8 for a discussion on "Contemplation" facilitated by Michael Sheehy. This session is the first in a monthly series of salons, open dialogues, held at the Contemplative Commons and centered around cutting-edge research related to contemplation and flourishing. The gatherings convene scholars, scientists, and practitioners from diverse perspectives to exchange ideas, generate knowledge, and seek solutions to global challenges.

In the wake of the events that unfolded at UVA on Saturday, May 4th, we imagine many of you have experienced a wide range of reactions, emotions, and questions. Last week, the Contemplative Sciences Center staff engaged in processes and practices to help each other work with our own thoughts and feelings.

On Thursday, May 16 from Noon-1:00pm, we are offering a similar virtual practice to the wider community for contemplative pause and emotional processing. Our hope is to create a space where attendees can honor and move through their authentic experiences.

After the Run with Jim on April 30 (the last day of class!) come chill, stretch, and do some mindfulness and yoga with CAVMAN! We'll start immediately following the morning run!

Chill with Cavman: WOW! Cavman will join us for some yoga on the lawn!  Watch him do down dog! Then relax on the last day of classes, chill, stretch, and engage in a mindfulness exercise with our certified instructors.  Bring your own mat if you are not running. We have a limited number we will provide.

Join the Contemplative Sciences Center, the International Studies Office, and UVA Athletics for a program featuring the 2023-2024 Citizen Leader Fellows final presentations.

The 12th annual Tom Tom Festival is taking place in Charlottesville April 17-21, 2024. This year's theme is TOGETHER — encouraging us to gather as a community for a celebration that is about our interconnection, and our shared future.

The Contemplative Commons Student Advisors (CCSA) will be hosting yoga with Robin Lilly in the Meeting Barn at 2:00pm. It is free for all students and all levels of experience are welcome. On May 1 we will be leading a sound bathing experience. All levels of practitioners are welcome and bringing your own mat is encouraged!

Psychedelic experiences have been variously described and current psychometric measures have problems. This talk by David Yaden will describe issues surrounding measuring and characterizing psychedelic experiences for the purpose of predicting risks, benefits, describing, and comparing these experiences to those triggered through other means.

In connection with invited speaker Britt Wray's talk being sponsored by the Contemplative Sciences Center and the Environmental Institute, we will be holding a contemplative nature walk at the Dell.

Feeling despair facing a future with the effects of climate change? There may be a remedy. In this talk hosted by UVA’s Contemplative Sciences Center, Environmental Institute, and Public Service Pathways, Britt Wray, a researcher and expert on the psychological impacts of the climate crisis especially among young people, will share research and personal experiences from her journey from fear to hope and to action.
